The Accountability Alliance Defentra
TAA Seal Program

Terms & Conditions

These Terms explain the rules, responsibilities, standards, and limitations that apply when a business applies for, participates in, displays, or promotes the TAA Seal Program.

Effective Date: August 20, 2026 Version: 2026-08-20-v1 Applies to TAA Seal Applicants

1. Program Overview

The TAA Seal Program is operated by The Accountability Alliance. The program is designed to identify, review, and recognize businesses that demonstrate a commitment to transparency, integrity, fair customer treatment, complaint response, and consumer accountability.

The TAA Seal is not automatically granted. A business must apply, be reviewed, and be approved before it may claim TAA Seal status or display any official TAA Seal materials.

The TAA Seal is not a government license, legal certification, insurance product, financial guarantee, or promise that a business will never receive complaints. It is a program recognition based on TAA review standards and continued participation requirements.

2. Eligibility

The Accountability Alliance may consider businesses from different industries, locations, and business models. However, TAA may deny, pause, or reject applications from businesses that do not meet program standards or that create unreasonable consumer risk.

A business may be denied if:

  • There is a pattern of unresolved consumer complaints.
  • The business uses misleading, deceptive, abusive, or unfair practices.
  • The business refuses to provide accurate contact or ownership information.
  • The business misrepresents products, services, pricing, guarantees, refunds, or results.
  • The business has serious unresolved allegations involving fraud, scams, consumer harm, or unethical conduct.
  • The business attempts to misuse, copy, alter, or falsely claim the TAA Seal.

3. Application Review

Submitting an application does not guarantee approval. The Accountability Alliance may review the business, public information, customer feedback, complaint history, website claims, advertising, business responses, and other available information.

TAA may contact the business for additional information before approving, denying, or delaying a decision. Failure to respond may result in denial or closure of the application.

Application information must be accurate

The person submitting the application represents that they are authorized to act on behalf of the business and that all submitted information is accurate, complete, and not misleading.

4. Accountability Standards

The TAA Seal is based on ongoing accountability. A business must be willing to stand behind its work, respond to legitimate customer concerns, and operate with reasonable transparency.

TAA may consider:

  • Business transparency and accurate public information.
  • Customer complaint response history.
  • Advertising honesty and clarity.
  • Refund, cancellation, warranty, and service practices.
  • Customer review patterns and documented concerns.
  • Whether the business makes reasonable efforts to resolve legitimate issues.
  • Whether the business has a pattern of deceptive, unfair, or abusive practices.

5. TAA Score

Approved or participating businesses may receive a TAA Score. The score is intended to help consumers understand how the business performs across accountability-related factors.

The TAA Score may change over time based on new reviews, complaints, responses, updated business information, consumer reports, investigation results, or changes to TAA scoring standards.

A TAA Score is an opinion-based program rating created by The Accountability Alliance. It is not a legal finding, government rating, financial rating, or guarantee of future business performance.

6. Seal Use Rules

Only approved businesses in good standing may display the official TAA Seal. The Seal may only be used in ways approved by The Accountability Alliance and must not be altered, copied, misrepresented, or used after approval ends.

Approved businesses may use the Seal for:

  • Business website display.
  • Approved social media use.
  • Approved digital marketing materials.
  • Approved in-store or physical display materials.
  • Linking customers to the business’s verified TAA profile or Seal verification page.

Businesses may not:

  • Claim Seal approval before official approval is granted.
  • Use the Seal after suspension, removal, expiration, or denial.
  • Modify the Seal design, wording, colors, or verification link without permission.
  • Use the Seal to imply government approval, legal certification, insurance, or guaranteed performance.
  • Use the Seal for another business, location, franchise, owner, or entity that was not approved.
  • Use the Seal in misleading ads, deceptive claims, or unfair business practices.

7. Accountability Map & Business Profile

Approved or participating businesses may be eligible to appear on The Accountability Map, TAA business listings, Seal verification pages, review pages, or other TAA discovery tools.

TAA may display business information, Seal status, TAA Score, reviews, complaint activity, business responses, public information, and other accountability-related information.

TAA may also identify alternative businesses or consumer options when helping consumers find better choices. Participation in the TAA Seal Program does not guarantee ranking, placement, traffic, leads, customers, revenue, or search visibility.

8. Complaints, Reviews & Business Responses

The Accountability Alliance may allow consumers to submit reviews, complaints, evidence, ratings, or reports regarding businesses. Participating businesses may be given opportunities to respond to certain complaints or concerns.

TAA may review, moderate, approve, deny, hide, publish, summarize, or investigate submissions at its discretion. TAA is not required to publish every submission and may remove content that appears abusive, false, spammy, irrelevant, threatening, or inappropriate.

A business’s failure to respond to serious or repeated concerns may affect Seal status, TAA Score, profile visibility, or continued program participation.

9. Suspension, Removal or Denial

The Accountability Alliance may deny an application, suspend Seal status, remove Seal approval, change a TAA Score, limit profile visibility, or terminate participation if a business fails to meet standards.

Reasons may include:

  • Misuse of the TAA Seal.
  • False or misleading application information.
  • Repeated unresolved consumer complaints.
  • Refusal to respond to legitimate accountability concerns.
  • Deceptive, unfair, abusive, or unethical business practices.
  • Legal, regulatory, or public information that raises serious consumer concerns.
  • Failure to pay required program fees, if applicable.
  • Conduct that harms consumers, TAA, Defentra, or the credibility of the Seal Program.

10. Fees, Renewals & Program Changes

The Accountability Alliance may charge application fees, monthly fees, annual fees, renewal fees, verification fees, profile fees, or other program fees. Any fees, billing terms, renewal terms, and cancellation rules may be provided separately before payment is collected.

Program features, pricing, benefits, visibility, review criteria, Seal use rules, and renewal requirements may change over time as the program develops.

Unless otherwise stated in a written agreement, payment does not guarantee approval, continued Seal status, lead volume, customer traffic, ranking, sales, or business growth.

11. Business Responsibilities

Businesses participating in the TAA Seal Program are responsible for their own products, services, advertising, employees, contractors, customer service, warranties, refunds, legal compliance, and business operations.

The business agrees to:

  • Provide accurate and updated business information.
  • Use the Seal only as authorized.
  • Respond in good faith to legitimate customer concerns.
  • Avoid misleading customers about what the TAA Seal means.
  • Notify TAA of major changes that may affect eligibility.
  • Stop using the Seal if approval expires, is suspended, or is removed.
  • Comply with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and industry obligations.

12. Limits, Disclaimers & No Guarantee

The TAA Seal Program is provided as a trust, review, recognition, and accountability program. The Accountability Alliance does not guarantee that an approved business will always satisfy every customer, avoid future complaints, increase revenue, receive leads, obtain better search ranking, or avoid legal or regulatory issues.

The Accountability Alliance is not responsible for the acts, omissions, products, services, employees, contractors, representations, warranties, pricing, refunds, or business decisions of participating businesses.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, TAA may limit or deny liability for indirect, incidental, consequential, reputational, lost-profit, lost-revenue, or business-interruption damages related to the Seal Program, business listing, score, review, denial, suspension, removal, or program participation.

13. Updates to These Terms

The Accountability Alliance may update these Terms, program standards, Seal use rules, scoring methods, eligibility criteria, and program benefits. Updated Terms may be posted on this page with a new effective date or version number.

Continued participation in the TAA Seal Program after updated Terms are posted may require agreement to the updated version.

14. Agreement

By submitting a TAA Seal application, the business and the person submitting the application acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.

The person submitting the application confirms that they are authorized to submit the application on behalf of the business and to agree to these Terms for purposes of the application and review process.
